Reservoir President Honoured

Reservoir President and Founder Golnar Khosrowhshahi named one of Billboard’s most powerful female executives.

 

Golnar Khosrowshahi, Reservoir’s president and founder, has been named one of Billboard’s Most Powerful Executives in the Industry, as a part of their 2017 Women in Music list. Khosrowshahi joins more than 100 women that “represent today’s dealmakers, influencers and tastemakers…[who are] pushing the music industry forward.”

Praising Khosrowshahi’s success, Billboard states, “Khosrowshahi has built [Reservoir] into an indie music publishing powerhouse.” Billboard mentions Reservoir’s growth through “the dual strategy of signing songwriters and making key strategic acquisitions for a total catalog of more than 100,000 songs.”

Reservoir Named Publisher Of The Year

Reservoir Media was named Publisher of the Year at last night’s A&R Awards ceremony held in London.

The awards show, thrown by Music Business Worldwide in association with Abbey Road Studios, celebrates creative achievements in music and is judged by over 100 of the brightest minds and biggest achievers in artist development worldwide. Reservoir songwriter Jamie Hartman was also nominated for Songwriter of the Year at this year’s awards.

The news comes off a strong week in the UK, as Reservoir cuts landed at the #1, #2, and #4 spots on the Official UK Singles Charts with Post Malone’s “Rockstar”, co-written by Joey Bada$$, and Camila Cabello’s “Havana” and Avicii & Rita Ora’s “Lonely Together” respectively, both co-written by Ali Tamposi. “Rockstar” was also #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in the US. In addition, Reservoir marked a strong Q2 as the company earned a Top 10 market share in the US, coming in at #7, with 2.1% of the total market share.

Reservoir Acquires Historic Soul Catalogs

Reservoir announces the acquisitions of the historic catalogs of soul legends Willie MitchellLeon WareNorman Harris, and the Commodores’ Walter Orange and Thomas McClary.

 

Collectively, the five deals bring over 1,000 genre defining songs to Reservoir’s diverse and expanding catalog.

“The opportunity to build upon the legacies of genre defining music is rare and thrilling,” said Reservoir SVP of A&R and Catalog Development Faith Newman, who lead the company’s initiative to pursue these historic American catalogs. “When I connected with Willie Mitchell’s son, Boo, and Norman Harris’ son, Dorian, as well as with representatives for Leon, Thomas, and Walter, I let them know that it is important to Reservoir to ensure that historic catalogs continue to inspire new generations. As a Philadelphia native, soul music runs through my veins and I am very passionate about seeking out the gems in this often-underappreciated genre of music.”

Newman further adds, “Our licensing teams in Los Angeles, New York, and London will pursue new opportunities for syncs, samples, and lyric reproductions, so that these works will continue to live on for years to come. Reservoir has already licensed the Commodores’ ‘Night Shift’ in a major ad campaign for African telecommunications company MTN and watching new audiences discover this music is amazing.”

Golnar Khosrowshahi Named Indie Power Player

RESERVOIR PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER GOLNAR KHOSROWSHAHI NAMED INDIE POWER PLAYER

Golnar Khosrowshahi, Reservoir Media’s founder and president, has been listed as one of 2017’s Indie Power Players, as revealed by Billboard. The list of 51 independent music business mains include executives, distributors, labels, and publishers—all of whom have mastered their craft in the industry. Khosrowshahi told Billboard, “[Reservoir] has established itself as a creative force fostering opportunities for its songwriters.”

Billboard praises Khosrowshahi’s success, mentioning the 12 songs in the Billboard Hot 100 in June 2017, all co-written by six of Reservoir’s writers: Ali Tamposi, Ina Wroldsen, 2 Chainz, Jamie Hartman, and Offset and Takeoff of Migos. Billboard also specifies hits “It Ain’t Me” co-written by Ali Tamposi and Calvin Harris’s new album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, which features two tracks with Migos.

In addition to Khosrowshahi being listed as an Indie Power Player, as reported by Billboard, Reservoir has a Top 10 US market share for Q2 of 2017. Revealed on the list as #7, with 2.1% of the total market share, marks Reservoir’s first appearance on the Publisher’s Quarterly US Market Share report, listing the company among the ranks with the majors, Kobalt, and BMG.

Wesbild Completes Acquisition Of The Waterfront in North Vancouver

Vancouver, British Columbia – Wesbild Holdings Ltd. has announced the completion of the acquisition of The Waterfront property in North Vancouver.

Located at 1371 McKeen Avenue in the Norgate/Lower Capilano community, The Waterfront represents one of the last remaining privately held waterfront sites of magnitude in the area and boasts an impressive 730 feet of waterfront frontage.

The property is the site of Lions Gate Marina, Lions Gate Mini Storage and 15 other tenants.  Wesbild looks forward to running Lions Gate Marina and Lions Gate Mini Storage who will continue their operations as usual.

Mike Box Elected To The Music Publisher’s Association Board

Reservoir/Reverb Music’s Chief Financial Officer Mike Box was elected to the Music Publisher’s Association (MPA) Board as announced at the MPA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) this month. The MPA promotes the interests over 260 music publishers with rights to thousands of catalogs across every genre of music. The liaison between the government, music publishers and the public, the MPA provides a forum for discussion, information sharing and education about the value of copyrights.

A founding member of the Independent Music Publisher’s E-Licensing (IMPEL), Mike was also reelected to the IMPEL board, a subcommittee of the MPA which offers collective rights management to independent publishers, in April.

Reservoir Acquires Century Media’s Music Publishing Catalogs

As announced in Billboard, Reservoir has acquired the music publishing catalogs associated with heavy metal, progressive rock, indie, and punk rock record label group Century Media. The deal brings Reservoir the publishing rights amassed over the last 20 years with 9000+ copyrights and 350+ songwriter contracts, including future works, from writers signed to Magic Arts, Lonely Planet, and Element, expanding Reservoir’s total number of copyrights to over 100,000 and songwriters represented to over 1,000.

“This acquisition of Century Media’s publishing arms reaffirms our commitment to diversifying our music catalog and expanding Reservoir’s international offerings,” said Reservoir COO Rell Lafargue. “We look forward to welcoming Century Media’s songwriters into the Reservoir family.”

Founded in the 1990’s in Los Angeles, London and Dortmund, Germany, Century Media’s publishing arm specializes in different styles of rock music. The writer roster includes such artists as Arch Enemy, Architects, Devin Townsend, Deicide, Iced Earth, In This Moment, Lacuna Coil, Shadows Fall, Spock’s Beard, and Suicide Silence, among others. The deal brings Billboard Top 200 albums Blood, A Star-Crossed Wasteland, and The Dream, by American metalcore band In This Moment, Karmacode, and Comalies by Italian metal band Lacuna Coil, and The Black Crown, No Time To Bleed, and The Cleansing by American deathcore band Suicide Silence to the Reservoir catalog, among many others.

Moving forward, Reservoir SVP of Creative and A&R Spek will oversee creative development for the active roster of songwriters, with additional support from Reservoir’s Creative teams in New York, Los Angeles, and London. “Century Media has been a pioneer in metal for years,” said Spek. “I’m a fan and am excited to work with these writers and build upon the incredible foundations they’ve already established.”

In 2015, Sony Music Entertainment acquired Century Media Records’ family of labels: Century Media, Another Century, Inside Out, Superball and People Like You.

Reservoir Partners With Big Life Management

London — New York based Independent music publisher Reservoir, which counts Reverb/Reservoir Music in the UK as part of its global operations, has announced a new partnership with London based music management company Big Life Management and its music publishing arm Big Life Music.

As part of this new agreement, Reservoir will acquire a stake in Big Life Music’s 3,000+ copyrights from an eclectic roster of songwriters and will expand its business operations to include participation in artist management activities.

Big Life Management was established in 1986 by co-Founder and CEO Tim Parry and the late Jazz Summers. Over the last three decades, Big Life has been instrumental in the success of artists and producers including The Verve, Snow Patrol, Badly Drawn Boy, London Grammar, La Roux, Walking on Cars, Coldcut, Lisa Stansfield, Yazz, Jacknife Lee, Youth, The Futureheads, and Klaxons among others. Big Life artists have been responsible for album sales of 40 million units worldwide including over 100 Top 40 hits in the UK alone.

The company currently manages a host of top talent, including Adem, Badly Drawn Boy, Bloc Party, Bright Sparks, Gethin Pearson, HAARM, Hifi Sean, joan, Joe Cross, Lyves, The Sound of Arrows, To Kill A King, WILLS and Youth plus current Reservoir songwriters Nitin Sawhney, Craigie Dodds and Turya. Big Life Management also has partnerships with The Bakery, LostOnes and 140db Management.

Reservoir Earns Six 2017 Billboard Music Award Nominations

The 2017 Billboard Music Awards have been announced and Reservoir is proud to represent works that earned a total of 6 nominations this year:

Beyoncé’s Lemonade is nominated for Billboard Top 200 Album and Top R&B Album. The album features “Freedom” co-written and produced by Just Blaze.

DJ Khaled’s Major Key is nominated for Top Rap Album. The album features “For Free” featuring Drake, which includes a sample of Too $hort’s “Blow The Whistle” and “Work For It” featuring 2 Chainz, Big Sean, and Gucci Mane.

Migos‘ “Bad and Boujee” featuring Lil Uzi Vert is nominated for Top Rap Song and Top Rap Collaboration.

DJ Snake’s “Let Me Love You” featuring Justin Bieber is nominated for Top Dance/Electronic Song. The cut was written with Reservoir writer Ali Tamposi.

This year’s ceremony will air May 21 on ABC.
