The Content ID system, revealed yesterday, is a feature designed to allow music publishers like Reservoir to identify and monetize the works of their songwriters, from original tracks to user-created covers.
Content ID is a win for both Reservoir’s songwriters and partners; the program will allow them to claim their rightful share of revenue generated by YouTube’s active community. No longer will the creators and owners of musical compositions be sidelined when ad revenue is generated from pages featuring their work.
