James Cheney Joins Reservoir Executive Team

Reservoir announces the addition of key Creative executive James Cheney to the Reservoir team. As VP of Creative and A&R, the Los Angeles-based Cheney will look after songwriters for the Company, in addition to signing and developing new talent alongside the Creative teams in LA, New York, Nashville, and London. For his first signing, Cheney brings Grammy Award-winning writer-producer-artist Rami Dawod to the roster, in a deal that will see Reservoir represent future works for the triple-threat.

One-half of RCA Records’ production duo Jarami, Dawod won the 2019 Grammy for Best Dance Recording for co-writing and co-producing “Electricity” performed by Mark Ronson and Diplo’s supergroup, Silk City featuring Dua Lipa. Additional writing and production credits include Camila Cabello’s 3x-Platinum and Top 40 #1 hit “Never Be The Same,” plus “You & Me” by Marc E. Bassy, and Frank Ocean’s “Chanel,” “Biking,” and “Lens.” As part of Jarami, Dawod has released two EPs, Sketches and Sketches II, and a host of impressive singles including “Post Mates (featuring Cautious Clay),” released last month. Originally from Sweden, Rami is based between Stockholm and Los Angeles.

Cheney comes to Reservoir with over 15 years of creative experience, most recently at Spirit Music Group. Throughout his career, he has overseen award-winning and notable acts including The RZA, The Roots, The Matrix, Brian Lee, DJ Mustard, Jeff Gitelman, and more. Cheney has been working with Dawod for the last three years, overseeing his creative development as writer-producer.

“I am very excited to start this new chapter in my career together with Reservoir and my dear friend and A&R, James Cheney,” said Dawod. “My producing partner Jacob and I are super excited for the future of Jarami and I am happy to share and continue the journey together with Reservoir.”

“Rami is a truly gifted songwriter who combines impeccable taste and pop sensibility with great vision. It has been an honor to guide his creative career over the last three years and I am thrilled to be continuing the relationship at Reservoir. We’ve only scratched the surface of what’s to come,” said Cheney. “The chance to work at a creative-minded music company with Donna Caseine and the rest of the team was the perfect move forward for me. I am very thankful to Golnar Khosrowshahi and Rell Lafargue for the opportunity, and excited to work with Reservoir’s incredible roster of songwriters.”

“James is very well-respected in the industry; he has an eye for talent and excellent taste,” adds Reservoir President and COO, Rell Lafargue. “He fits in seamlessly with our global Creative team and has already proven to be an asset to the company in bringing an exceptional talent like Rami on board. We’re excited to be welcoming them both into the Reservoir family.”

Reservoir announced the signing of #1 and Platinum-selling country songwriter and singer Josh Mirenda to a worldwide publishing deal. The deal includes an interest in Mirenda’s entire catalog of works, plus exclusive representation on all future titles.

A Nashville native, Mirenda has co-written three #1 singles in as many years. The Platinum-selling “Somewhere On A Beach,” performed by Dierks Bentley, topped Billboard’s Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts and earned Mirenda the ASCAP Song of the Year award. Meanwhile, “They Don’t Know” and “Girl Like You” written for frequent collaborator Jason Aldean rose to #1 on the Mediabase Country Airplay chart and the Billboard Country Airplay chart, respectively.

In 2017, Mirenda released his debut single as a performer, “I Got You,” which has since climbed to 22 million streams globally. Following the launch of his 2018 self-titled EP, Mirenda went back to the studio with plans to drop a full-length debut album later this year. No stranger to the stage, he has spent the last few years on the road opening for artists including Easton Corbin, Rodney Atkins, Dylan Scott, and Chris Young.

“Josh is an unbelievably talented songwriter and artist,” said Reservoir EVP of Creative John Ozier. “He has already written three huge hits and is just getting started. We are so excited to be working with him as we build out the Reservoir Nashville roster.”

Added Mirenda, “I am both honored and excited for this opportunity to work alongside John Ozier, Greg Gallo, and the entire Reservoir staff. Their commitment to writers, as well as artists, is unparalleled.”

In October, Wesbild moved to a brand new office in Royal Centre in Vancouver. Taking over the entire 26th floor after a full custom renovation, the Wesbild team is settling into their new space.

After 30+ years in business, the move also gave Wesbild the opportunity to refresh their logo and branding. While Wesbild’s look may be new, the core values have not changed. Wesbild will always strive to create spaces that to be proud of, and that add value to the communities that they are a part of.
